After warm-ups, students will go on to receive copies of the poem "The Maiden of Katsushika." Each poem will be given a number. Students will then move into a group that has the number from their poem. As a group, they will read the poem and complete the following:
Group 1- Identify imagery. Highlight all examples of imagery in BLUE.
Group 2- Identify figurative language. Highlight all examples of figurative language in GREEN.
Group 3- Identify rhyme/rhythm. Highlight all examples of rhyme/rhythm in ORANGE.
Group 4- Identify central idea/theme. Highlight lines that show central idea/theme in PINK.
After completing their work in like groups, they will move into new groups where each number is represented. They will then discuss what they identified in their original group and how it affected the overall poem. Finally, they will paraphrase the poem as a group.
Once all groups have completed their work, they will go on to answer 5 multiple choice questions pertaining to the poem.
