Students will begin class by getting 5 minutes to free write on their warm-up sheets. A topic about goals will be provided for those with writers block.
Once students have completed their warm-ups, they will go on to discuss how to use their various "reading voices" in class along with how to highlight and annotate. After, students will read an informational text piece on the Oral Traditions of West Africa.
Finally, students will be given the chance to read a West African fable and compare it to an American fable using a double bubble map. They will also participate in discussion questions about the selections.
