Students in 1st period will be given the opportunity to finish their final 2 stations once they have entered the classroom. After they have completed their stations, they will take a moment to identify their biggest anxiety for the upcoming school year on a sheet of paper. From there they will be asked to participate in a "snowball" fight using their balled up sheet of paper. We will then take a moment to read each anxiety and students will be asked to stand if they share the same one. This will help us to identify others who may be feeling the same way we are.
Once we have finished the snowball fight, students will work together in small groups to create classroom mission statements. We will select the best one to use as a representation of our classroom goals for the rest of the semester.
Students in 3rd and 4th periods will begin with the snowball fight activity and move to the classroom mission statement activity. Once they are done they will complete a "Save Sam" collaborative learning assignment which we will then use to help us identify the ways in which we will work within collaborative groups over the course of the semester.
