Students in all classes will be given 5 minutes at the beginning of the period to work on Vocabulary Set 1 (due Friday). Once they are finished, they will be given 10 minutes to read their DEAR novels.
English I - 1st/3rd
After DEAR time, students will begin looking at their survival unit. They will be asked to discuss the focus objective as well as begin considering the essential question. From there, students will participate in a "Lost at Sea" activity in which they will work to rank 15 survival tools and their importance when lost at sea. Judging by their rankings, it will determine who does/does not survive. Finally, students will remove the selection "The Seventh Man" from their textbooks and prepare to read/annotate.
English I Honors - 2nd
After DEAR time, students will be introduced to their Odyssey unit. Students will discuss the focus objective and begin to consider the essential question. From there, they will be asked to create an original hero and give him/her heroic qualities/characteristics. When they finish, they will gather in small groups to discuss their heroes and list any common qualities/characteristics that they share. Students will then be given their reading assignments and will pull the selection from the textbook to place into their binders. As a class, we will go over the first bit of the epic poem together. If time remains, students will begin reading the poem.
HW (ALL Classes): AoW #2 due next Monday (1/27). Vocabulary Set #1 due Friday (1/24).
