English I - 1st/3rd
Students will begin the class by being introduced to Emmett Till and the story of his murder/the subsequent reaction of America. After we have spent some time talking about Emmett, students will take notes on the different types of characters that can be found in literature. Finally, students will receive a copy of their class novel Mississippi Trial, 1955 which tells the fictional story of a boy in Mississippi as he interacts with Emmett and sits through the trial of his murders. As a class, we will begin reading the novel.
English I Honors - 2nd
Students will be given a few minutes to complete their digital artifacts from the day before. Once all artifacts are done, students will set them up on laptops and we will have a silent gallery walk in which students keep track of what each artifact does well as well as what could be done better. After 15 minutes, students will return to their desks and set up a sheet of notebook paper with their name on it. Students will then receive 5 minutes to walk around and put notes on each student's paper letting them know how they can fix their artifact to be even better. Once the 5 minutes is up, students will receive the last 15 minutes of class to make necessary changes to their artifacts before submitting for a grade.
