Students will begin class by introducing themselves to each others. They will be given the chance to identify all other students in the room for a free 100 in the gradebook.
Once all introductions are done, students will go on to take a brief self-assessment. This will allow students to tell me what they think about English and how they feel they best learn. From there, students will use their self-assessments to create SMARTgoals for class. They will determine what level they believe they are capable of achieving on their EOC that will be higher than previous levels.
Finally, students will participate in an activity called "Saving Sam." Working as a group, they must rescue a gummy worm who is lying atop his "boat". They must place a gummy lifesaver vest around the worm, flip his boat over, and retrieve his oar without touching any items than a given paper clip. The first group to rescue Sam receives a prize, and then as a class we will determine what guidelines we should follow when working in teams. We will vote on these guidelines and type them into a Google Doc that will then be made into a poster and placed around the room for us to refer back to when we need it.
