Students in 1st period will briefly review parallelism and then take a quick pop quiz in which they identify correct examples of parallelism. From there, they will take a test on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech as well as Cesar Chavez's "Lessons from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." speech.
Students in 3rd period will have a round table discussion of Frederick Douglass' "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?". As a class, we will go paragraph by paragraph and discuss what is being stated and why. For homework, students will finish reading the selection and complete 10 TQE's (Thoughts, Questions, or Epiphanies) about the text.
Students in 4th will review parallelism as well as take their pop quiz. They will then take a test on the selection "Letter from a Birmingham Jail".
