Having completed their warm-ups, students will move on to complete their level activity from the day before for the thinking maps. Once that's done, students will work with the poem "The War Works Hard" by Dunya Mikhail.
Students in 1st period will be assigned a question number (1, 3, 4, or 5). Working in a small group, they will read the poem and answer the question using a class selected thinking map. They will place their thinking map on a sheet of poster paper and present the final product to the class along with their answer to the question. As a class, we will discuss whether or not we agree with the group and determine what the correct answer is.
Students in 3rd and 4th periods will read the selection as a class and walk through the thinking maps together. As a class, we will determine the correct answers.
